Holistic Medicine

I now have been a veterinarian for over 25 years. I am still excited by veterinary medicine and all of its areas. During my career, I have sometimes found that traditional answers don’t always address health issues in an effective manner and I have found that some medications can be very harsh and even toxic. Some of the things that we do in medicine only suppress illness and do not cure illness. In my search for alternative medicines, I have found several areas that I believe are very helpful and are often curative. Herbs, vitamins and nutraceuticals have a definite place in our health care system. They can offer less toxic and effective approaches to many areas of ill health. These choices are not “harmless” however and should only be used with proper advice and education. Too often, “natural remedies” are given over the counter with claims of “completely safe”. Some of these products are expensive - some are useless - some are unsafe. I would be happy to discuss these supplements with you and provide you with good choices.

Homeopathy
is an area of medicine that I have found to be very intriguing and very effective. This type of medicine is over 200 years old and the approach is very different form traditional medicine. This approach is very holistic and takes the whole animal into account, including physical and emotional symptoms. The initial consult takes much longer than a traditional exam and the remedies are not meant to suppress symptoms; instead, they promote the body to heal. This option is now available in appropriate circumstance, to those who wish it.

Health and well-being can sometimes be a fragile state - the more choices we can offer - the better we are able to successfully keep your pet in a state of good health. Your pet’s good health is our sincere desire and we will continually strive to do whatever we can to help you keep your companion healthy and happy.
